Black Student Union (BSU)

The Black Student Union founded 1968 was created by a coalition of students to provide a unified and strengthened bond between minorities in order too overcome adversities. The UW Black Student Union strives to create an environment for academic, social and cultural success as well as political awareness for minority students on campus. The BSU encourages and preserves the positive image of African Americans and all peoples of color. We host an atmosphere where students can communicate and participate in the campus community and the greater Seattle community around us. The Black Student Union welcomes and recognizes people from all backgrounds and cultures and invites everyone to participate with us.

African Student Association (ASA)
ASA is a diverse group of African students whose mission is to unify the African students body within the University of Washington. ASA strives to reach out to African youth in obtaining higher education. Through outreach programs, community service and social events ASA provides support for African students on campus beyond.

National Pan-Hellenic Council of the UW (NPHC)
The National Pan-Hellenic Council, Incorporated (NPHC) is currently composed of nine (9) International Greek letter Sororities and Fraternities: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc.*, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and Omega Phi Psi Fraternity, Inc. NPHC promotes interaction through forums, meetings and other mediums for the exchange of information and engages in cooperative programming and initiatives through various activities and functions.

Associated Black Business Students (ABBS)
ABBS is a non-profit, student-run organization founded in 1970 to support and encourage Black students who are interested in careers in business and related fields. ABBS will enable you to develop the leadership and communication skills that are necessary to succeed in both academic and professional settings.

Sisterhood
Sisterhood (unity, respect, and love) was formed to represent a sense of belonging and understanding between African American women on all levels: Undergraduate, Graduate, Educational (professors/ staff), and community. Sisterhood has been a forerunner in organizing events that constitute unity amongst African Americans.

Minority Association Pre-Health Students (MAPS)
MAPS at the University of Washington is dedicated to helping underrepresented individuals realize their potential in health fields. Through our community service, we are committed to promoting and enhancing health among minorities, which enables us to educate ourselves so we can better address health concerns.

Minority Pre-Law Society
MPLS was created to encourage minority students to go on to law school and to aid them with the scholastic preparation and application process.
Black Law Students Association, UW School of Law Chapter
BLSA promotes fellowship and community among all students at the University of Washington School of Law. The organization provides Black law students a forum for expressing needs and concerns; to develop future Black leadership; and to open lines of communication between Black law students and the larger Black community. Activities include a celebration of Black History Month, a reception for members of the Loren Miller Bar Association, and community outreach.
